Beautiful Creatures

I was born November 21, 1989 and for as long as I can remember I’ve loved astrology and my zodiac. Being a seeker of knowledge you realize if you pay attention, how through time in different cultures everyone was sort of saying the same thing but in their own way. It’s no coincidence that every culture has used the same set of stars and celestial objects to obtain knowledge or a higher connection to the universe.

I was scrolling through my Instagram and I saw this awesome photo of a model with a spider on her eye ,which she absolutely killed. With my spontaneous nature and love of thrills I was inspired to do an editorial but with an animal that I feel is sort of my spirit animal or connected to me in some sort of way. you know my vibe. I was inspired by the colors, hues and layers that the photographer uses in his style of work. It was different and the details make it pop, which intrigued me. I felt like the end product of what I saw in my head could be achieved. This is why I love being an artist myself. Your work inspires and conveys so much more than a picture. Taking a huge leap of faith I decided to go for it. Nothing excites me more than change sometimes. I’m the type of person who loves a challenge, don’t take it easy on me because taking it easy doesn’t contribute to growth. Even in the dance world growing up , you would never see me in the back of any class or competition . If the front is where the best talent is then that’s where I want to be, so when I win I know its because I deserved it. My fascination for beautifully misunderstood creatures can finally be shown through my work. Now let’s dive in to what lead me more towards the snakes.

Kelvin ( the best friend) is always talking about how my Chinese zodiac is a snake , I mean he says it all the time. At first I wanted to use a scorpion of course, but after extensive research they were hard to find and I just felt like let me save that one for later. If ever I use a scorpion it can’t be fake. This was a perfect time for me to start exploring the snake more in depth as it does play a role of symbolism in my life. I’ve always thought of snakes as alluring, mysterious, and deadly when provoked. Yes, the correlation between snakes and bible gives them a bad reputation but I don’t think snakes are evil or even symbols of darkness. They are symbols of rebirth, fertility and healing. The snake and magnolia piece to the below right is by an artist named Jessica- Roux, I fell in love the instant I saw it. Not only does it have my flower the magnolia but it has the snake in it too. You have to pay attention to the signs you get in your life people. You know me , I ordered this tapestry already and it hanging in my boho babe cave as we speak. I got it from Urban Outfitters . Everyday we have an immense amount of digital content thrown our way so its easy for it to get noisy but pay attention to details or images that speak to you.

Everything was set into motion, annual hair trim coming up so hey why not use the straight hair look and for an extra spice lets throw in some colored contacts. For this I wanted the main focus to really be me and the snake so no extra fashion moments needed. The overall simplicity made the pictures way more cool to me for this type of shoot anyways. Not every shoot has to have heavy fashion and dramatic locations. This needed to be about evoking emotion letting my inner slitheryn vibes out and challenging myself to do something different. I usually get a lot of feedback that I always look cute and super soft. Just so we are clear I hate being called cute. I made sure I didn’t look cute this time dammit, I wanted to look fierce , animalistic and sensual. The people closest to me know how I am but I have to find a way to express that in my work.

Now that I had decided I was using snakes my wild thornberry ass had to find them. Can you believe I found a handler on Facebook? My co-workder was nice enough to ask her friends and we got a few hits. We exchanged information and she sent me tons of pictures of snakes to select from. I mean from a person who has never handled a snake or played with them I was very excited to look at them but holy shit now I was about to have to put it on my body. There were certain types of angles and shots I wanted to get so I had to be willing to do whatever with the babies. The days leading up to the shoot I won’t lie a few times I freaked out a little. I am crazy , full blown psycho Susie but that doesn’t mean I don’t get nervous . Thats why balance is good for me because I will definitely push the limits if you let me. The black and brown snake below was the first one we used and once she put it on me it was game time. All I kept saying to myself was stay calm so they don’t feel that you are nervous. Once we got started the photographer told Rose ( snake lady) to try and get the snake on my face . Sure enough he slithered his beautiful body right across my face and licked out that little tongue. Monty was absolutely beautiful . His colors worked perfectly with my skin tone and I was happy to have him perched right there .

I think its safe to say that your girl is definitely House Slytherin and I am proud of it lol. This was totally my initiation and I think it’s safe to say I passed . This entire snake vibe has encouraged me to enjoy the process of shedding that old skin and embracing that change. They use vibrations as a compass to find its direction and have a keen sense of self-awareness. As we take this new week on let’s find ways to focus on our energy on challenging your comfort zone. Do it in your own way , no need to go play with snakes if you don't want to . My challenge this year is most likely going to be accepting that I want to be alone more often than I’m use to. That shift of me being alone really is contributed to me working on my craft. I want to allow myself the chance to meet some new creative friends but I get excited thinking about staying up all day working on concepts or editing pictures or better yet taking trips and creating amazing content that simply flows out. Embrace your changes happily my loves and as always throw some good energy out there to the universe.
