A Southern Gothic Tale
Happy Halloween everyone, the weather is bringing all the feels today with the foggy mist and light rain drizzle outside but as long as the temperature continues to drop I won’t complain. In honor of one of my favorite holidays I decided that on one of my recent trips home I would shoot in the Afton Villa Gardens. This garden is tucked away about 30 min outside of Baton Rouge and I’ll admit I’ve been here several times. The landscape and overall vibe is breathtaking. Standing out in the openness of huge trees and Spanish moss just softly moving through the southern breeze really make me feel free. My purpose for sharing this post goes beyond my love for nature but more into the realm of my love for the world of mythical creatures and spooky folktales.
From Ann Rice books, Harry Potters movies, and of course my all time favorite horror films. I’ve read and seen them all. What has always intrigued me the most is the way dark films tell stories of those who to me have a battle between forces of nature. J.K. Rowling for example using elements of darkness and magic to have us curiously interested to tell the epic battle of good vs evil. When in school and it came time to pics book , I loved books that had stories that allowed you to image a different world and broaden your imagination. I have quite the imagination to say the least.
For all my members of “ the coven” I love you lol. Anyone who watches American Horror Story will understand. When the show came out in general I was like , what did I do to deserve you. I mean it has everything a girl could want in a show about horror and all things for the insane. But when they did the season of coven filmed in New Orleans I just about lost it. It gave me fashion, storyline. aesthetic, and MAGIC. Hands down one of the best tv series to date.
As a stargazer , dreamer and moon child I won’t ever pass up a chance to dance in a forest of trees. Shout out to my photographer Clinton for believing in my vision and literally shooting in the rain. I mean this day actually came out perfect in a dreadful sort of way. It stormed and I mean Louisiana was like here is a thunderstorm , figure it out. It worked out thankfully , we stayed out there and made it work by shooting when the hard rain would stop. I asked for a gloomy moody photoshoot an it gave me just that. My sister Briya tagged along and as always I’m excited when I can have my siblings around to see me be creative and to just see it all come together.
With caution I will say this, if you ever see a winding road or a path that’s different but appeals to you, take it. Every path isn’t strait and narrow and everyone journey of life will be different. Don’t be afraid to take chances and explore the unknown. Imagine me sitting in front of this road but never driving down the path and realizing this hidden gem nestled away. That saying curiosity killed the cat is so overrated. No matter if its a book, music, or a lifestyle its yours to live. Keep exploring the depths of who you are and as always Normal People Scare Me. Happy Halloween !!
